Court notice to police for delay in producing MNS chief

A local court in Jalna district on Monday issued notice to police for the delay in producing Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray against whom the court had issued a non bailable warrant (NBW).

Aurangabad: A local court in Jalna district on Monday issued notice to police for the delay in producing Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray against whom the court had issued a non bailable warrant (NBW).

Judicial Magistrate Satyavan Doke issued a notice to inspector of Badnapur police station asking as to why action should not be initiated against him for delay in producing Raj before the court.

A complaint was registered against Raj by Badnapur police on October 21 last year after some suspected MNS members hurled stones at a state transport bus near Hirvi Patha.

Police had charge-sheeted the MNS chief in the matter as the activists who hurled stones were shouting slogans in favour of MNS. The court had issued an NBW against him on December 5, 2009 and also rejected the plea to stay it.

The court, however, rejected the application by police today seeking some more time to execute the NBW.

The next hearing has been posted to January 2, 2010.
Meanwhile, Raj has approached the Aurangbad bench of Bombay High Court appealing to set aside the NBW.

Raj, in his application to HC, has argued that he gets an alibi in the case as he was arrested by Kherwadi police in Mumbai from a guest house in Ratnagiri on the day when the incident took place.

The appeal would be taken up for hearing in the next week.
