Mumbai: Thousands of devotees thronged Siddhivinayak Temple here on Thursday to take part in the `Aarti` on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The traditional festival of Maharashtra is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and devotion with puja rituals being performed in decorated pandals all across the state.

Authorities have made stringent security arrangement across the city to prevent any untoward incident.

The police have also cancelled leaves of its personnel, with around 35,000-plus men in khaki being put on duties from today.

Personnel of the Quick Response Team, Rapid Action Force, and State Reserve Police Force have also been deployed for security. They will also be assisted by volunteers from National Cadet Corps, Scout and Guide, and NGOs.

Ganesha Chaturthi is a Hindu festival celebrated in honour of Lord Ganesha. It is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi.
