Mumbai: BJP MLA Gopal Shetty six others were booked for alleged land grabbing in suburban Kandivali as per a court directive after a widow contended that her property had been usurped, police said on Thursday.
Complainant Rita Dadarkar (52) alleged that the disputed 464-square-meter land in suburban Kandivali was in her late husband`s name but it was illegally occupied by Shetty after forging the documents in connivance with six others, said police.

According to Rita, her aunt Laxmi Raut, who is the real owner of the property, wrote a will transferring the land in her husband`s name in 1991 before she passed away. However, Gopal Shetty claimed to have purchased the property in 2007 from the real owner, police said.

The victim approached a local court which ordered the police to register an FIR and probe the allegations.

"As per court orders, we registered an FIR yesterday against Shetty, a city survey officer, Borivali Registrar officer and four others for forging the documents and giving threats to the victims," said Narayan Khaire, Senior Inspector at Borivali police station.

"We will probe to ascertain who is lying and whose documents are original," the officer said adding, "If the allegations turn out to be true, then arrests will be made in the case."
