ISCE students also to get 25 marks for sports: AG tells HC

Maha Govt today told the Bombay HC that the facility of allotting additional 25 marks to SSC students for participating in sports at state, national or international level would also be extended to ISCE students.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Government today told the
Bombay High Court that the facility of allotting additional 25
marks to SSC students for participating in sports at state,
national or international level would also be extended to ISCE
students in this academic year.

The admission process for 11th standard is slated to begin
tomorrow.

Advocate General of Maharashtra, Ravi Kadam also informed
that the Government would issue a GR (circular) today itself
on granting additional 25 marks to ISCE students and forward
the same to the educational institutions so that admission
process can immediately begin.

The Supreme Court had two days back allowed the state
government to continue the "best of five" system for SSC
students. The court had extended the same facility to ISCE
students.

A fresh petition before the Bombay High Court had
demanded that ICSE students too should get the benefit of
marks for sports activities.

In view of the statement made by Advocate General today,
Justice D K Deshmukh and Justice Rekha Sondurbaldota disposed
of the petition.

Petitioner Richa Nadkarni`s lawyer, V Thorat, had sought a
stay on admissions which are slated to begin tomorrow.

SSC board students would get additional 25 marks for
participating in sports at state, national and international
level sports, as per a direction issued in 2008.
