Mumbai: In a bid to promote Marathi in
the state, Maharashtra government today approved a proposal to
set up a separate department for the language.
"The decision for the separate Marathi department has
been approved in the Cabinet meeting today and additional Rs
10 crore would be given to it," Chief Minister Ashok Chavan
told reporters here.
The various divisions of the government like Marathi
Language Directorate, State Marathi Development Institute
would come under one roof of the newly announced department,
Chavan said.
The appointments for the department would be done by a
committee headed by the Chief Secretary, he added.
