M`rashtra may delete `3 Idiots` ragging scenes

Maharashtra govt will watch `3 Idiots` to judge if ragging has been glorified in the film.

Mumbai: Maharashtra government will watch Aamir Khan-starrer `3Idiots` to judge if ragging has been glorified in the successful Bollywood film and may ask the censor board to delete such scenes that could promote the menace.

The state government move on Monday came amid reports that the nature of the ragging incident in a medical college here was similar to a scene in the blockbuster.

"We will ask the movie`s producer to submit its script as there are media reports that the nature of the Seth Medical college ragging incident was similar to the one shown in `3Idiots`. We will also watch the film," Medical Education Minister Vijaykumar Gavit said.

"Only after going through the script future course of action would be decided...Also, we would write to the censor board that as far as possible such scenes should be avoided in movies," he told reporters.

Gavit later said the censor board will be asked to delete such scenes in the film that had the potential to inspire or provoke ragging. 18 students of Seth G S Medical College were arrested on Sunday on charges of ragging and released on bail on Monday.

One of the scenes from `3 Idiots` showed freshers played by Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan being ragged by their seniors in the hostel.

Aamir has already denied that the film promoted ragging "It is true that we have shown ragging in the movie. However, we oppose it and even the scene does not promote it," he said recently.

A voluntary organisation working against ragging in India has recently complained to the Supreme Court appointed anti-ragging committee about the menace being glorified in Bollywood film `3 Idiots`.
