Nagpur corporation: BJP inducts Muslim League

BJP, which bagged 62 seats in Nagpur Municipal Corporation polls, has taken 2 members of IUML on board to retain the power.

Nagpur: BJP, which bagged 62 seats to emerge
as the single largest party in the recently held Nagpur
Municipal Corporation election, has taken two members of
Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) on board to retain the
power.

The magic number is 73 in the 145-member house. BJP has
mustered support of 76 members, including two of IUML, one
each of Bahujan Republican Ekta Manch and Lok Bharti and 10
independents -- mostly rebels.

The BJP-led group, named `Nagpur Vikas Aghadi`, has left
Shiv Sena, its pre-poll alliance partner, out; though sources
said that Sena is sure to back BJP. The group has been
registered with the Divisional Commissioner`s office.

Sena contested 18 seats and got six.

The 10 independents include former Congress Mayor Kishore
Dorle. Congress, which bagged 41 seats in the February 16
polls, will have to sit in the opposition.
