New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Monday said it has asked the Maharashtra government to arrest Pune`s police commissioner for disobeying its orders in the case of rights violation of a Scheduled Caste man.

"The Commission found it to be indicative of wilful disobedience of its directions, so have asked the chief secretary of Maharashtra to arrest and bring the Pune commissioner of police before the Commission on Jan 28, 2014," said the NHRC statement.

The matter relates to the complaint of Kishan Namdev Godke who alleged abduction and killing of his son in 2007 and inaction by the local police in the case.
"The matter was taken up during an open hearing on Scheduled Castes held in Nagpur. However, no response was filed by the Commissioner of Police. He was also asked to submit a report, which was never received by NHRC," added the statement.

The rights panel sent summons to the official over the past few months but there was no response.
