No proposal received for a Bal Thackeray memorial: Chavan

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday said the white paper on irrigation will be published soon.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday said the white paper on irrigation will be published soon.

"As per an assurance in the House, it will be brought before the people soon," Chavan told reporters here.

Chavan`s comments came in wake of his meeting with NCP president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said there is no difference of opinion in the Congress regarding transfer of Indu Mill land for Ambedkar memorial.

"It is our commitment. Talks are on and the Centre is responding positively," he added.

When asked about RPI leader Ramdas Athavale`s threat that his party will take possession of the land if no announcement is made before December six, the death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, Chavan said, Athavale met him last week and they had a fruitful discussion.

"I don`t know what he spoke outside," he added.

On senior Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi`s remarks that the party will not hesitate in taking law into their hands for ensuring memorial of late Sena supermo Bal Thackeray at Shivaji Park, Chavan said nobody should take law into their hands.

"Such comments will be legally examined," he added.

The Chief Minister also said the government has not received any proposal for a memorial at Shivaji park.

"Law will not be violated," he stressed.
