`Policemen involved in crime should not get relief from court`

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil said there is urgent need to find a way to ensure that police officials allegedly involved in crimes do not get relief from tribunals or courts.

Solapur: Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil
on Friday said there is urgent need to find a way to ensure that
police officials allegedly involved in crimes do not get
relief from tribunals or courts.

Citing the example of Mumbai police inspector Ashok
Davde, who was nabbed with `charas` and had faced the charges
of carrying liquor with him in the past, Patil said he was
re-instated after directives from Maharashtra Administrative
Tribunal (MAT).
"We suspend officials after their involvement in illegal
activities but they get relief from court. So we have decided
to find a way out to this and the matter would be discussed at
the cabinet soon," he told reporters here at the airport.
