Raid on sub-engineer unearths assets worth crores

Economic Offences Wing raided half a dozen premises of a government sub- engineer and unearthed assets worth crores allegedly belonging to him.

Indore: Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the
police on Saturday raided half a dozen premises of a government sub-
engineer and unearthed assets worth crores allegedly belonging
to him, officials said.

Santosh Arya, attached to Rural Engineering Department
of the Madhya Pradesh government, was booked under Prevention
of Corruption Act and detained for interrogation, SP of EOW
Manoj Singh said here.

Arya has declared four houses, two flats, five shops,
three luxury and five ordinary four wheelers and cash worth Rs
25 lakh during the raids which began this morning, he said,
adding that their value would be Rs 8 crore to 10 crore.

His nine bank accounts were also seized, the SP said.

A large contingent of EOW personnel, numbering nearly
100, was deployed to raid Arya`s four houses in Indore and one
each in Khargon and Barwani, Singh said, adding that one
vehicle was found to be in the name of his servant.

The EOW had received a number of complaints against the
45-year-old sub-engineer, who is in service for 15 years,
related to misappropriation of funds and non-implementation of
public work projects in the recent past, he said.

The raid was continuing, Singh added.
