Mumbai: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner
Hassan Gafoor will submit a written explanation to the state
government over the remarks attributed to him, accusing four
senior police officers of dereliction of duty during the 26/11
Mumbai attacks, a top official said here today.
"We have asked Gafoor to explain his side of the story.
We asked him whether he had given the interview," additional
chief secretary (Home) Chandra Iyengar told reporters.
Gafoor was quoted as saying in an interview to a news
magazine that "a section of senior police officers refused to
be on the ground and take on the terrorists. By doing so, they
chose to ignore the need of the hour."
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan had earlier said the reported
comments "do not fit into police discipline".
Iyengar has been directed by Home minister R R Patil to
inquire if Gafoor really made those remarks.
