New Delhi: Shiv Sena today dared Maharahstra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to contest the state assembly elections due later this year, a day after Congress leadership reposed faith in him to lead the party in the polls.

"It is good that the Congress high command has asked Chavan to continue as CM after being two and half years in the post. Now he should show the guts to contest the polls", Sena spokesman Sanjay Raut, MP, told PTI.
Raut claimed Shiv Sena would defeat Chavan from whichever constituency he chose to contest. In Mumbai, when asked whether he would contest the assembly polls, Chavan, currently an MLC, said "I will announce my decision when time comes."
Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra is in an upbeat mood since Lok Sabha elections after securing 42 of the 48 seats.
