Suspected IS mediator arrested in Maharashtra

The accused had allegedly planned a bomb blast in the city in the month of Ramazan and was to receive some weapons from Syria.

Parbhani: A 31-year-old suspected mediator of Islamic State has been arrested by the Nanded ATS here.

The accused had allegedly planned a bomb blast in the city in the month of Ramazan and was to receive some weapons from Syria, Nanded ATS Inspector Manik Bendre said.

He said Naser Bin Abubakar Yafai came in contact with the terror outfit through Internet and had renewed his passport to visit Syria.

Yafai, a resident of the Gadiwan locality in the city, had frequent discussions with one Farooq from Syria, the officer said.

He was arrested on Thursday and a case against him was registered at Kalachauki police station in Mumbai.

Parbhani police said the accused has been remanded to a seven-day police custody by the Railway Court of Aurangabad.
