Patil, prime accused in Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar
murder case, was on Tuesday asked by a sessions judge here to pay
costs to the tune of Rs 10,000 for wasting time of the court
and delaying the trial.
The trial could not begin today as Patil moved an
application seeking documents from Kalamboli police station
which had registered the murder case against him and others.
CBI Counsel Ejaz Khan objected to Patil`s application
saying that the documents pertaining to the case had already
been handed over to Patil and he could have asked for more
documents, if needed be, soon after the chargesheet was filed
against him two years back, and not at this stage when the
trial is set to begin.
At this point, Additional sessions judge Dilip Gaikwad
asked Patil to pay Rs 10,000 by way of costs for wasting time
of the court and delaying the trial while directing the CBI to
provide whatever documents Patil needed by June 17 and
deferred the trial to July 4 for day-to-day hearing.
CBI, in its 5000-page chargesheet filed on August 20,
2009, alleged that Patil hatched a conspiracy to murder
Nimbalkar as he viewed the latter`s rise on political scene as
a threat to him.
Patil allegedly hired killers for Rs 30 lakh to
eliminate Nimbalkar, who, along with his driver was shot dead
on June 3, 2006, at Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, near here.
Other accused in the case include Latur-based
businessman Satish Mandade, corporator Mohan Shukl, Parasmal
Jain, former state excise inspector Shashikant Kulkarni,
Bahujan Samaj Party worker Kailash Yadav, alleged shooters
Dinesh Tiwari, Pintu Singh and Chote Pandey.
