Ten tourists from Maharashtra, including five women, were on Saturday killed on the spot when a lorry rammed into a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Medak district.

Sangareddy: Ten tourists from Maharashtra, including five women, were on Saturday killed on the spot when a lorry rammed into a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Medak district.

The accident occurred on National Highway-9 at Pochavam Cross around 2 am, police said.

"The over-speeding SUV, suddenly turned right and the lorry coming from opposite direction rammed into it, resulting in the death of all the passengers instantly," police said.
All the deceased hail from Parni taluk in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, they said, adding the occupants were on their way to Hyderabad for a tour.

Two victims have been identified as Sunil Albahar Nawate, 60, and his family member Ramesh Nawate, who was driving the vehicle.

The bodies were shifted to the mortuary of Government hospital in Sangareddy town.

Patancheru police, who seized the lorry, arrested its driver. Further investigation is on.
