Thane: Over a whopping 40,000 cases have been listed for the `Mahalok Adalat` in Thane scheduled on September 16, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) said here on Wednesday.
The list of cases was still increasing as more cases were coming up for the `adalat`, to be held in all the taluka courts of the district simultaneously, DLSA secretary SM Chandgade said.
The cases where settlement is possible with agreement of both the parties, will be decided at the `adalat`, he said adding that the panel which would decide upon the cases will include legal experts, retired judges, practising senior lawyers.
Efforts are on to reduce the pendency of cases in the courts so that the ones requiring more attention are dealt with properly, he said.
In the first `Lok Adalat` held in November last year, a total of 58,000 cases were settled and an amount worth Rs 4.02 crores was disbursed towards claims, he said.
