TISS case: Victim fails to appear in court

The 23-year-old US national and student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), who was allegedly gangraped, today failed to appear before a sessions court to depose against the six accused.

Mumbai: The 23-year-old US national and
student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), who
was allegedly gangraped, today failed to appear before a
sessions court to depose against the six accused.

The court was informed by the prosecution that the
victim, who had left to the US soon after the incident, could
not come to India as she was yet got her visa and would appear
before the court on February 8.

The case dates back to April 2009 when the accused first
met the victim at a pub near TISS in suburban Deonar and then
took her to a flat in suburban Andheri where they allegedly
raped her.

The first witness in the case, owner of the Cafe XO pub
today deposed before the court.

The owner told the court that the six boys and two girls
were partying and had consumed large quantity of alcohol.

The six accused - Vinamra Soni, Harshvardhan Yadav,
Jashkaran Bhullar, Anish Borkataki, Dev Colabawala and
Kundanraj Borgohain - are facing trial under Section 376 (g)
of IPC which deals with gangrape.
