Two Maharashtra police commandos killed in Gadchiroli Naxal encounter

Two police commandos were killed while another was injured in a gunbattle with Naxalites in the forests of Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Sunday.

Gadchiroli: Two police commandos were killed while another was injured in a gunbattle with Naxalites in the forests of Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Sunday.

The incident occurred late evening near village Tikameda of the Maoist violence-affected district located on the border of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh (Kanker district).

"Two of our commandos have been killed while one is injured. The troops sustained bullet injuries as they were in a planned operation," Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Ravindra Kadam said.

The encounter happened when the joint security forces, including the special C-60 commandos of state police, were out for an anti-Naxal operations along the border area of the two states. The operations had been on since morning.

The injured has been rushed to a hospital at Gadchiroli district headquarters and the encounter has ended, a senior police officer said.

Police suspect that two Naxals have also been killed in the gunbattle.
