Alert issued to police outposts in Maoist areas

Fearing retaliatory attacks after the death of top Maoist leader Azad in Andhra Pradesh, all police camps and outposts in Naxal-hit areas in West Bengal have been put on maximum alert.

police camps and outposts in Naxal-hit areas in West Bengal
have been put on maximum alert.
"An alert has been issued to all police camps and
outposts in Maoist areas in the state, Inspector General of
Police (Law and Order) Surojit Karpurakayastyha said here
today.
The Maoist-affected districts are West Midnapore, Purulia
and Bankura.

Top Maoist leader Azad Cherukuri Rajkumar was shot dead
by the police in an encounter in Adilabad district of Andhra
Pradesh yesterday.

He was stated to be close to Maoist general secretary
Gopinath and regarded as second-in-command of the outfit.
