New Delhi: After quitting as Delhi chief minster, Arvind Kejriwal in his resignation speech on Friday said just because AAP government had registered an FIR against Mukesh Ambani, both BJP and Congress joined hands against them.

Arvind Kejriwal today resigned following a tumultuous day in the state Assembly where combined Congress and BJP legislators “defeated” his party’s attempts to introduce its signal Jan Lokpal Bill, which the Aam Admi Pary (AAP) says was meant to curb corruption in high places.

Addressing party members at Hanuman Road here Kejriwal said, “Today Jan Lokpal Bill was not allowed to be introduced, BJP & Congress united to oppose it.”

He added, “Just because we had registered an FIR against Mukesh Ambani, both BJP and Congress joined hands against us.”

Taking on Bharatiya Janata Party`s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Kejriwal said, “Mukesh Ambani said Congress is his `shop`, he is also close to Narendra Modi. From where does Modi get so much money for his rallies.”

Further recommending for fresh polls in the national capital, the AAP chief said, “Delhi Assembly should be dissolved and re-elections should take place.”

"The BJP and the Congress did not reduce corruption even after 60 years. We reduced it in just 45 days," he added.

"On 28 December we took an oath. Friends, our biggest promise was that we will pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, a strong law against corruption. These Congressis had given in writing that they would support the Jan Lokpal Bill. But today in Vidhan Sabha, when we tried to table the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Assembly, the Congress and the BJP got together." Kejriwal said.

He further said, "This has never happened in the history of India. But they got together. Behind our backs, behind the curtains, they are looting the country. In the last two days, their true face has emerged. They together ensured that the Jan Lokpal Bill was not even tabled."

Meanwhile AAP supporters at Hanuman Road chanted, “Sheila Dikshit lost, now its Narendra Modi`s turn.”

"They (Congress) tell lie that we are not following Constitution. They want to do corruption. Both BJP and Congress have joined hands. We say eradicate corruption. They say it is unconstitutional," Kejriwal said.

"They break mikes and consider it as Constitutional. People will teach them a lesson," he told a large gathering of his supporters outside AAP headquarters here.

He said both the parties wanted him to work as per their wishes.

"I was disheartened with what happened in the Assembly yesterday. They wanted us to work as per their wishes. They thought we were new and would ask for their advice in every work we do. But We followed the Constitution and I am ready to sacrifice my life for the Constitution," said Kejriwal, who resigned after introduction of Jan Lokpal Bill was defeated in the Assembly today.

During his about half an hour speech, he accused both BJP and Congress of corruption.

Meanwhile, supporters backed Kejriwal`s decision to quit saying he should fight the national election, due by May.

"He should resign. He will win the Lok Sabha election and come back as Prime Minister," said a supporter.

Another said, "Today is Valentine`s Day. Arvind Kejriwal has shown his love for the people by sacrificing his chair. Sacrifice is another name for love."
