Indore: A three-day meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)`s National Council and National Executive has begun in Indore from Wednesday.
The Indore conclave is significant for the BJP as it is expected to mark the beginning of a new strategy for the main opposition. The party has suffered two consecutive defeats in the Lok Sabha elections and has seen a generation leap with Nitin Gadkari taking charge as the new BJP President.
BJP leaders are expected to introspect and think of a strategy to make the organisation more effective and to broaden the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Today`s meeting is the first meeting of the National Council after the defeat in the May 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
The party has recently witnessed a generational shift with BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani being made the Parliamentary Party Chairman, a move that indicates that he has taken a backseat.
Bringing in Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley as Leaders of the Opposition in the Lok
Sabha and the Rajya Sabha respectively is also a move that indicates the BJP is now planning for the future. (ANI)
