BJP hits back at Sonia Gandhi

BJP said Sonia Gandhi had no "moral right" to raise the issue of corruption as scams worth lakhs of crores have taken place during UPA government.

New Delhi: Stung by Congress President Sonia Gandhi`s attack on Gujarat government led by Narendra Modi, BJP on Wednesday hit back saying she has no "moral right" to raise the issue of corruption as scams worth lakhs of crores have taken place during the UPA government.

"Shockingly, Sonia Gandhi has talked about corruption in her speech in Rajkot. We all thought who is this talking about corruption.... A party which has a track record of corruption is in a complete denial mode... BJP feels she has no moral authority to speak about corruption," party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

Listing some of the scams that have taken place since the Congress-led UPA came to power, BJP said Rs 70,000 crore were siphoned off in the Commonwealth Games, Rs 1.76 lakh crore in the 2G spectrum scam and now the Prime Minister himself is facing charges of anomalies in the coal block allocations.

"But these are small amounts according to the Congress standards. These figures do not matter to Sonia Gandhi and the Congress," Rudy said.

The Opposition maintained that though Suresh Kalmadi was sent to jail in the CWG scam, he has been made a member of Parliament`s Standing Committee on External Affairs by the Congress. "This decision was taken by Sonia Gandhi who has nominated Kalmadi to the Standing Committee," Rudy said.

BJP also made light of Gandhi`s claims that the credit for development in Gujarat goes to the Centre.

"Sonia Gandhi has done all the development in Gujarat. UPA has been in power at the Centre for the last eight years ... Mrs Gandhi should refrain from false propaganda against Gujarat," Rudy said.
