The Mumbai zone of CBI organised a record number of `traps` and registered more than 90 cases in 2009.

New Delhi: The Mumbai zone of CBI organised a
record number of `traps` and registered more than 90 cases in
2009.

One of the most prominent cases include the arrest of
National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chairman Buta Singh`s
son Sarobjit on July 31 for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 1
crore from a Nashik-based contractor to close a case against
him in the Commission.

The other trap cases include arrest of Additional and
Assistant Commissioners, Income Tax, who were allegedly
demanding Rs two lakh each. The Mumbai branch of the
investigating agency also laid a trap for Assistant Wireless
Adviser, Regional Licensing Office.

According to a CBI spokesperson, the agency sleuths
trapped Railway Protection Force personnel who were allegedly
collecting money illegally in an organised manner by demanding
Rs 100 per passenger (Approximate Rs 1.60 lakh per day) to
arrange seats in general bogie in trains originating from
Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai.

Other trap cases were registered in ACB Mumbai against
officers of various departments like Food Corporation of India
(FCI), Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation
(IRCTC), State Excise Office of Silvassa, Banks, Mahanagar
Telephone Nigam Ltd as well as an officer of CBI and Mumbai
Police, he said.

Out of the total 92 cases registered in 2009, probe in 91
was completed. In 2008, the agency had registered about 70
such cases, the official said.
