Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
could not visit Kathmandu to participate in the `shraadh`
rites of former Nepalese premier Girija Prasad Koirala today
in absence of clearance from the Centre, official sources
said.

"Kumar did not not go to Kathmandu to attend the Shraadh
rites in the absence of the Centre`s permission required for
a CM to go to a neighbouring country," an official spokesman
said.

Koirala`s daughter and a minister in the Nepal
government, Sujata Koirala had on March 25 invited the Bihar
Chief Minister to attend the `shraadh` function to be held at
Kathmandu.

Kumar was earlier denied permission thrice by the Centre
in 2008 also when he wanted to visit Nepal to oversee the
repair work of the Kusaha embankment, which had breached
causing huge loss of human lives and property on both side of
the border.
