Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday said that Union Minister for Rural Development C P Joshi had appreciated the efforts of the Andhra Pradesh Government in ensuring effective implementation of NREGS and 'Abhayahastam' programmes in the state.

The Chief Minister, who is in New Delhi on a 3-day visit, discussed with the State Minister for Rural Development Vatti Vasantha Kumar about the proposed additional works to be taken up under the programme, an official release said here.

Rosaiah also directed the Principal Secretary, Rural Development R Subrahmanyam over phone to ensure that the coverage under the 100 days wage employment initiative cross 22 lakh families in Andhra Pradesh by March next.

This will be possible through effective implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the state, he said.

As per the road map for NREGS approved by the CM, officials were directed to ensure that 100 days wage employment was provided to 1.5 lakh households in each large district and one lakh households in each small district under the scheme.
