Indore: Principal Scientific Advisor
to the Government of India, Dr R Chidambaram today said
that India has to raise its power generation capacity and
women literacy ratio to ensure a place among the developed
nations of the world.

"As long as we did not raise our power generation
capacity to 10 lakh MW, till then it is difficult for our
country to stand among the developed nations of the world. We
have to increase the power availability six to eight times per
person," Chidambaram said inaugurating the Second Bhartiya
Vigyan Sammelan 2009.

He also stressed that country has to increase women
literacy ratio to almost 100 per cent.

Referring to the solar energy, he said country`s
scientific community has to work hard to achieve the target of
producing 20,000 MW of solar power till 2020.

He said that at present the cost of generating solar
power in the country was on a higher side and there was a need
to scale it down.
