Congress announces its candidate for bypolls in UP, Assam, Bengal

Congress on Monday announced its candidates for 16 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal where bypolls are to be held on September 13.

New Delhi: Congress on Monday announced its candidates for 16 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal where bypolls are to be held on September 13.

The seats include Noida, Lucknow East, Saharanpur Nagar, Bijnore, Thakurdwara, Nighasan, Hamirpur, Charkhan, Sirathu, Balha, Rohaniya and Sirathu in Uttar Pradesh, Silchar, Lakhipur and Janmunamukh in Assam, Chowrangee and Basirhat South in West Bengal.
AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry, in a party release, said the names of candidates for all the 16 seats has been cleared by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Ramesh Srivastava has been fielded from Lucknow East seat, Rajinder Awana from Noida, Humayun Baig from Bijnore, Mukesh Chaoudhary from Saharanpur Nagar, Mohd Ullah from Thakurdwara, Shiv Bhagwan from Nighasan, Keshav Babu Shivhare from Hamirpur, Ramjivan Dada from Charkhan, Lal Chand Kushwaha from Sirathu, Shyamta Prasad from Balha and Bhavana Patel from Rohaniya seats in Uttar Pradesh.

In West Bengal, Santosh Pathak would contest from Chowrangee and Ashit Majumdar from Basirhat South assembly seat.
In Assam, Arun Dulla Majumdar has been fielded from Silchar, Rajdeep Gowala from Lakhipur and Basiruddin Lashkar from Janmunamukh assembly seat.

The process of filing nominations has already started and the last date for filing of nomination papers in August 27.
