Congress names one more RS candidate from Assam

The Congress on Saturday night named Santiuse Kujur as its candidate for the second Rajya Sabha seat in Assam for which biennial elections would be held this month-end.

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday night named Santiuse Kujur as its candidate for the second Rajya Sabha seat in Assam for which biennial elections would be held this month-end.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already filed his nominations for one of the two Rajya Sabha seats for which the elections are slated for May 30.
Congress general secretary Oscar Fernandes said party chief Sonia Gandhi has approved the name of Kujur.

Meanwhile, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Saturday announced that party General Secretary Aminul Islam would be its candidate for the second seat in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Assam.
Elections will be held to fill up the vacancies which have arisen due to the expiry of the term of office of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is a Rajya Sabha member from Assam, and AGP MP Kumar Deepak Das on June 14 next.

The Prime Minister filed his nomination paper on May 15.
