CPI welcomes SC decision on black money

CPI on Tuesday appreciated Supreme Court`s decision to appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to monitor the investigation and the steps being taken to bring back black money stashed away in foreign banks.

Hyderabad: CPI on Tuesday appreciated Supreme Court`s decision to appoint a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to monitor the investigation and the steps being taken to bring back black money stashed away in foreign banks.

The Supreme court yesterday appointed its own SIT to track the trail of money in foreign banks and appointed two retired Supreme Court judges Justice B P Jeevan Reddy and Justice MB Shah as chairman and vice chairman of the SIT.

"Though we have reservations on judicial activism, it has become inevitable now, as the government has miserably failed on the issue," CPI Deputy General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said.

He felt that the appointment of retired judge B P Jeevan Reddy, who has a good image, would be useful as the "government appeared to have connived with those who have black money deposits abroad".
Sudhakar Reddy had raised the issue of black money in Parliament in 2009 and sought concrete action to bring back the illegal money from foreign shores.

The CPI leader criticised the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for allegedly not taking any decision on the vexed Telangana issue.

The comments of Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of Congress affairs in AP, are provocative, Reddy said, the government should immediately take some action.

We demand that the Bill for the formation of Telangana be introduced in the next Parliament session, he added.

Azad had said in Hyderabad recently that a decision on Telangana cannot be taken in haste and that other regions should also be consulted as part of the process.

The CPI would take a decision on its four MLAs quitting their posts, after the party`s state secretary K Narayana return from abroad, Sudhakar Reddy added.
