Coimbatore: CRPF is in the process of identifying those who indulge in naxal movement only during the nights while mingling with general public in day time by working in various capacities, a top official said on Friday.

The force has identified and documented the details of nearly 80 percent, who are involved in the Naxal extremism across the country and there was a small section of 20 percent who sell vegetables, doing some vocational or professional works who were yet to be identified, M Vishnuvardhan Rao, IG, Southern Sector, CRPF, told reporters at the Central Training College, on the outskirts.

The aim of the force was not to kill or eliminate those indulged in extremism but bring them to mainstream, particularly tribals, make them shun the mindless violence and also creating inclusive development in the areas, Rao said.

He expressed hope that with the coordination of the Home Ministry and local police, the force would be able to put an end to the activities in another two years, by bringing them to national mainstream.

CRPF was successful in stopping the spread of Naxals in Jharkhand and Kashmir areas and restricted their movement and fresh entry or "recruitment", Rao claimed.

The official was here to review the passing out parade and attestation ceremony of 166 Sub Inspector cadets of 87th batch of Directly Appointed Subordinate Officers.

To a question on reports of extremists getting sophisticated weapons from foreign countries, Rao said that it was being looked into by the Intelligence and Home Ministry officials.

Though CRPF was not competent authority to comment on the issue, it will take efforts to block the route and prevent smuggling of weapon into, if the reports were true, he said.
