Dates to close pilgrim to Chardham announced

The dates to close the portals of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath temple and Badrinath temple, revered as Chardham by Hindu devotees, have been decided.

Dehradun: The dates to close the portals of
Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath temple and Badrinath temple,
revered as Chardham by Hindu devotees, have been decided.

While entry to Gangotri, the source of holy river Ganga,
will be stopped from October 18, the pilgrim to Yamunotri, the
origin of river Yamuna, will be closed to the devotees for
winter from October 19, sources said.
The portals of Badrinath will be closed from November 17
and of Kedarnath, one of the five Kedars, from October 19.

Besides, the pilgrim to Madmaheshwar and Tungnath will
also be suspended for winters from November 20 and November 26
respectively, they said.

The dates to close the portals of Rudranath and
Kalpeshwar is yet to be decided.

Madmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar are the
remaining four Kedars, a part of the Chardham yatra.
The Chardham yatra would remain suspended for six-months
during the winter. The auspicious date and time for closure of
various shrines is decided every year on the occasion of
Dusshera in the presence of the head priest of each temple.

This year, around 25 lakh pilgrims took the yatra to holy
Chardhams, situated between 10,000 ft and 13,000 ft in the
Himalayan region in the northern state of Uttarakhand.
