New Delhi: In its quest to ensure a “clean” look during the Commonwealth Games, the Delhi government has come up with a new gameplan – hide the beggars and the homeless away from the glare of the ‘glowing city’.
As per a newspaper report, officials have zeroed in on some locations - parks and open areas covered with tents and games banners – to rehabilitate the homeless till the games are over.
And, what’s even more interesting is that all the inhabitants of the shelters would be provided with food and other necessities, purportedly to ensure that they stay put inside the shelters from October 3 to October 14.
They would also have the luxury of using proper toilets as mobile units will be stationed inside – to ensure that they don’t defecate in public.
The initiative is believed to have come to effect after the state government’s drive to send these homeless people to their native places failed.
Clearly; with questions being raised about the over all preparedness for the mega sporting event and the lurking danger of dengue, and now the task to ensure that beggars don’t harass the visitors, the Delhi government’s hands are full!
