New Delhi: Commenting on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s remarks on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday that it should not matter who becomes the PM, but that focus on other more important issues.
"It does not matter if Narendra Modi becomes the PM or Rahul Gandhi. They should not waste time fighting about it. The need of the hour is to focus on more important issues in the country, particularly corruption," said Kejriwal.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prashant Bhushan said that Dr. Singh`s claim that history will be very kind to him is not true, as he has not ensured good governance in the country.
"He has let a lot of corruption take place in his government. Never has India witnessed this level of corruption that it witnessed during the past ten years of his tenure," said Bhushan.
"He has allowed every kind of corruption to take place, even though he might not have been involved in them. He himself has been responsible for some of the most destructive policies, particularly the mindless expansion of the nuclear deal, nuclear plants and genetically modified food," he said.
"But, I accept the point that Modi will be disastrous for the country. Modi has neither done anything about corruption in Gujarat, nor has he formed a proper Lokpal in Gujarat. The kind of torture against Muslims and officers who did not follow his orders is known to the whole country," Bhushan added.
In his third ever address to the media during his 10 years as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh said that if BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi ever becomes the PM, it would be a disaster for the country.
At the same time, he also indicated that he was not in the running for a third term as Prime Minister, but did not comment on whether Rahul Gandhi would be the prime ministerial candidate for the Congress or not.
He also said that he had promoted good governance and that he hoped history would be kind to him on his term a as prime minister of the country.
