New Delhi: Congress leader Anand Sharma on Friday asked the Centre to take up the matter concerning the arrest of Indian workers in Kuwait with the government there, and said all those responsible for perpetrating atrocities should be brought to justice.
Reacting to the arrest of Indian workers in Kuwait, Sharma said that it is a very serious matter.
"The Government of India must take it very seriously with the Kuwaiti government and the authorities there must ensure that the Indians are treated in a dignified manner and they return home safely," Sharma told ANI here.
"And those responsible for perpetrating atrocities towards our citizens should be brought to justice," he added.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) earlier in the day said all 'necessary consular assistance' will be provided in Kuwait.
"India's Mission has taken up problems with Kuwaiti authorities. Will provide necessary consular assistance. All need to abide by local laws," MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.
The response came following an appeal made by the Indians workers in Kuwait to secure the release of their colleagues, who have been arrested on charges of murder.
