Gilani calls Meira Kumar, exchanges New Year greetings

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday telephoned Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and exchanged New Year greetings with her, apart from discussing matters of mutual interest.

Raza Gilani on Sunday telephoned Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and
exchanged New Year greetings with her, apart from discussing
matters of mutual interest.

Gilani made the call to reciprocate a message of
greetings sent by Kumar on the eve of New Year, said a
statement issued by the Prime Minister`s media office.

"The Prime Minister conveyed his well wishes for her
future endeavours. Matters of mutual interest were also
discussed during the telephonic conversation," the statement
said.

Earlier in the day, Gilani said Pakistan is hopeful
that India will respond positively to its efforts for
resumption of meaningful dialogue during the upcoming meeting
of the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries.

The Foreign Secretaries are set to meet on the margins
of a SAARC meeting in Bhutan next month.
