Goa MP requests Centre to probe 3 mysterious explosions

A Goa MP on Sunday requested the Centre to initiate a probe into the three mysterious explosions that took place along the state`s southern coast on February 10.

Panaji: A Goa MP on Sunday requested the Centre
to initiate a probe into the three mysterious explosions that
took place along the state`s southern coast on February 10.

Residents around the coast had reported three explosions
at about 12.30 pm on February 10 in Canacona taluka. The
district administration had confirmed the reports but could
not ascertain their source.

Shantaram Naik, in a letter to Union Home Minister P
Chidambaram, requested him to send a team of experts to probe
the explosions. "These explosions should not be overlooked in
view of bomb blast in Pune," the letter said.

"Since Goa has been one of the prime targets of
terrorists for sometime now, investigations have to be done
to find out whether the explosions reported on February 10
were result of the targets missed by the terrorists," he said.

Naik said it was surprising that no state level agency
could throw light on the mysterious blasts.

The Defence Ministry has to take the incident seriously
given that its Sea Bird Project in North Kanara district
adjacent to Canacona taluka is a sensitive area, he added.

He said if the blasts are part of tests done by Sea Bird
authorities, it should be disclosed.

Goa police teams along with district administration
officials had scouted the entire South Goa coast to ascertain
the source of explosions but in vain.

State government officials had said there were no
claims of damage after the explosion and had therefore stopped
the investigations.
