New Delhi: As part of its efforts to
restore normal life in the war-ravaged northern Sri Lanka,
India will send a team of agriculture experts there next week
to have "extensive discussions" with stakeholders on assisting
them in activation of farming.
External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said a
delegation led by Indian Council of Agricultural Research will
visit Sri Lanka next week to have "extensive discussions with
stakeholders on the specifics of our agricultural assistance."
Addressing members of Editors Guild of India here, he
said India`s immediate focus is to see that the process of
resettlement and rehabilitation of more than 2.7 lakh IDPs in
their original homes is achieved as early as possible.
"We are in constant dialogue with the Sri Lankan
government on the issue. On its part, India has allocated Rs
500 crore for relief and rehabilitation of IDPs," he said.
Krishna said India is also actively assisting Sri
Lanka in de-mining which is an essential pre-requisite for
people to return to their homes.
