Islamabad: Pakistan government on Wednesday categorically rejected India’s charge that 26/11 attacks had full support of ISI and said that the intelligence agency is being “unfairly targeted”.
“We reject the allegations levelled by the Indian government based on the submissions made by a suspected LeT operative Abu Jundal arrested recently in connection with the 26/11 attacks case”, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik said addressing a press conference here.
Malik was responding to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s claims that there was support of Pakistani state actors in the 26/11 massacre.
"Abu Jundal’s confession proves that there was support of Pakistani actors in 26/11 massacre," Chidambaram had told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.
Stoutly defending the ISI as an "elite agency", Malik said that it was the target of “sustained propaganda campaign”. "We are proud of our ISI ", he said.
The Pakistani interior minister also claimed that his country would not rely on the evidence provided by India that ISI fully backed the conspiracy to target Mumbai.
“Earlier evidence provided by India about ISI’s involvement in the 26/11 case has proved wrong,” he said.
Launching a bizarre tirade against India investigations into various terror attacks, Malik sought to stump the arrest of Jundal.
"Now things are getting clarified. Who knows that there was a sting operation by somebody from India?" Malik said.
Speaking against the backdrop of revelations by Jundal about the planning and execution of the Mumbai attacks, Malik called on Indian authorities to provide detailed information about the terror suspect.
However, he contended that Indian authorities would have to focus on the role of Indians like Jundal, Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed in the Mumbai attacks.
"Zabiuddin is Indian. He was caught in India. He did everything in India. Why are you blaming Pakistan?” he said.
Malik also contended that Malegaon bomb blasts, Samjhauta Express bombing, Makka Masjid bomb attacks and Ajmer dargah blasts were the handiwork of Hindu extremists
"Your own Taliban are emerging there. So now we`ve seen the result and I wish best of luck to India that the law enforcement agencies must do something to stop it," he said.
Pakistan has always been claiming that the Mumbai terror attacks of November 2008 were carried out by “non-state actors”.
