Karnataka to fund Rs 2,500 crore for railway projects

Karnataka Government would be funding to the extent of Rs 2,529.80 crore for railway projects in the State in the next five years,Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said.

Bangalore: Karnataka Government would be funding to the extent of Rs 2,529.80 crore for railway projects in the State in the next five years,Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said.

He conveyed this in a letter to Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Yeddyurappa requested sanction for six projects -- Talaguppa-Honnavar (83 kms); Shimoga-Harihar (84 kms); Kuduchi-Bagalkot (142 kms); Whitefield-Kolar (52 kms);
Gadag-Haveri (84 kms); Tumkur-Davangere (210 kms) - in the coming Railway budget.

Earlier, Yeddyurappa had agreed to undertake sharing of costs in four projects being undertaken by railways on non-cost sharing basis; to undertake four new lines for which Karnataka government would give land free of cost and participate in 50:50 sharing of balance cost; five projects under public private partnership (PPP) mode and; to continue
cost sharing in six projects.
