Mumbai: K Unnikrishnan, the father of slain NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, on Wednesday expressed happiness over the execution of 26/11 attacks case convict Md Ajmal Amir Kasab at the Yervada jail in Pune.
In his first reaction to the development, Unnikrishnan said, “As an Indian, I am extremely satisfied with the government’s decision to execute Ajmal Kasab this morning. His execution is a step taken in the right direction. However, I feel there is a long road to go before the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
“No doubt that Kasab’s execution has brought a sense of relief to those who lost their near and dear ones in the terrorist attack on Mumbai. I think the government should have taken the decision the earlier. But nonetheless, it will send a strong message to those who want to create unrest in the country.
When asked how does he feel when he remembers his brave son Sandeep, who lost his life while defending the nation on that fateful day, Unnikrishnan said, “I think the justice has been served finally.”
The reaction from Major Sandeep’s father came minutes after Ajmal Kasab, the prime accused for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, was hanged at Pune’s Yerawada Jail at 7:30 am.
He was hanged after President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his mercy petition.
According to reports, the petition was rejected on November 5 after which the Lashkar-e-Toiba operative was shifted from Mumbai`s Arthur Road Jail to Pune`s Yerawada Jail.
The entire process was executed in complete secrecy, television channels said.
President Mukherjee’s rejection came two months after the Union Home Ministry rejected Kasab`s mercy petition.
Kasab and nine other LeT terrorists had sailed into Mumbai on November 26, 2008 from Karachi and killed 166 people.
