Khali no-show: Organiser`s police remand extended

A local court on Monday extended by three days the police remand of a person, who allegedly duped people with an offer of organising a wrestling event featuring famous wrestler Deelip Singh Rana alias `Great Khali`.

D S Babbar was arrested by Gurgaon Police on Saturday
night on the charges of cheating (section 420) and criminal
breach of trust (406) of IPC and Additional Chief Judicial
Magistrate had remanded him in one-day police custody, which
ended today.

ACJM R K Yadav extended his remand by three days.

He was arrested from Tau Devi Lal Stadium where spectators
vandalised the wrestling ring, display boards and other show
materials when it was announced that Khali was not there for
the show.

Gurgaon Police Commissioner S S Deswal had claimed that
Babbar had confessed that he along with Harkesh Hooda, Kishan
Sejwal and Chander Skekhar had planned the show. They had sold
tickets for `Yodhaon Ka Maha Sangram`.

Police had been raiding various places in Delhi since
yesterday to arrest his accomplices, who are absconding.

Women and children had to run for cover inside the
stadium, where bouncers clashed with the spectators following
the announcement that Khali is not turning up.

Wrestlers from South Africa, Bollywood actor Sharad
Saxena and others were evacuated by police as spectators
turned violent.

As per a police complaint, a cricket pitch was destroyed
by the organisers for holding the show and mandatory
permission was not obtained to hold the event.
