Liberhan debate opens, Left accuses BJP

New Delhi: The debate on the Liberhan Commission report and the Action Taken Report (ATR) began in Parliament on Monday, with CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta accusing the BJP of meticulously planning the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.

Dasgupta, who opened the debate in Lok Sabha, said he was ashamed to say the mosque was brought down after meticulous planning. The CPI leader said the then ruling Congress government at the Centre had failed to do its job of protecting the monument.

The notice for discussion on the commission report and the ATR has was given by Dasgupta and CPI(M) leader Basudeb Acharia.

The discussion is being held under Rule 193 and does not entail voting.

BJP president Rajnath Singh and the deputy leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj will present their party`s view on the commission report.

Several leaders of the BJP, including former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Leader of Opposition LK Advani, have been indicted by the Liberhan Commission report that probed the Babri Masjid demolition.

The discussion was originally slated for December 1 but was postponed after the Samajwadi Party insisted that copies of report should be made available in Hindi also.

The Rajya Sabha is scheduled to take up discussion on the report December 9 and 10.
