New Delhi: Keeping aside the Lok Sabha polls debacle, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister on May 26, reports said on Saturday.

On the counting day, Gandhi and her son, Rahul, had congratulated the `new government` but carefully avoided any direct mention of Modi’s name. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, however, congratulated Modi as results poured in his favour.
According to sources, Sonia Gandhi had later sent PM-designate Narendra Modi a congratulatory letter after President Pranab Mukherjee appointed him as the PM on May 20.

However, it is yet to be seen whether the Congress supremo would congratulate the PM-designate in person.
In the recently-concluded General Elections, Narendra Modi created history as he led the BJP to a spectacular victory in a battle that crushed the Congress and others ranged against him and gave, for the first time in 30 years, any party a majority in Parliament on its own.

After a record turnout of 66.4% in the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP secured 282 of the 543 parliamentary seats.
