Mumbai: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will
hold high level talks with Maharashtra government on Tuesday on
the Naxal menace in Gadchiroli and Gondia districts.

An Action Taken Report (ATR) will be presented to the
union minister on the successes and failures of the state
government in the last 11 months to curb the Naxalite problem
in the two districts of Vidarbha, officials in the Home
Department said.

The implementation of the Integrated Action Plan (IAP)
where central funds are provided for development of the Naxal
infested districts will also be reviewed at today`s
meeting, they said.

"Development is an issue in the Naxal infested
districts. The state government has identified the barest
minimum needs which have not been provided to the people and
programme for providing drinking water, construction of roads
and schools among others are being undertaken there," sources
said.

Besides, increase in the civilian killings is also a
cause of concern and the government will discuss its strategy
to counter Naxalism with the union minister, sources added.

"An amount of Rs 45 crore each has been sanctioned for
the two districts this year by the Centre and 50 per cent of
the amount has already been received," an official said.

Chidambaram will be arriving in the city from Raipur
in the afternoon and a meeting with him has been scheduled at
the Sahaydri Guest House in South Mumbai.
