Mumbai: India and the United Arab Emirates
need to ensure protection of Indian working-class in the Gulf
country who face problems when their visas are not renewed,
Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said.

"We need to ensure protection of working-class people in
the UAE. Employers sometimes deliberately delay visa renewal
of Indian workers thus making them illegal occupants in that
country. This issue needs to be addressed effectively in the
interest of both workers and the employers," Ravi said here.

Speaking at the Dubai International Financial Centre
Conference, the Minister highlighted that the Labour
Department of UAE has extended co-operation and has looked
into specific instances to protect Indian workers in the Gulf
nation.

Ravi also invited investments from the Gulf country,
especially in sectors such as infrastructure and energy
security in India.

In the next 3-4 years, power, roads, ports and telecom
sectors among others are estimated need USD 149 billion
investments. And 30 percent of this comes from from private
players through the PPP model, Ravi said.

"Investors from the UAE can look at investing further
in infrastructure and energy security of India," he said.
