No support to Congress, will stop BJP from coming to power: Karat

CPI(M)`s Prakash Karat ruled out support to Congress and said non-BJP and non-Congress forces will be able to form effective alternative and stop BJP from coming to power in next general elections.

Agartala: CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday ruled out any support to Congress and said non-BJP and non-Congress forces will be able to form an effective alternative and stop BJP from coming to power in next general elections.
Briefing the media on the sidelines of the party`s Central Committee meeting here, Karat said an analysis of the just-concluded assembly elections in five states showed Congress was rejected by the masses for corruption and sky- rocketing price rise and communal forces like BJP was trying hard to come to power with the help of RSS.

"We will not let BJP come to power. We will form a secular non-Congress, non-BJP alliance which will be an effective and viable alternative to resist BJP from coming to power in the next parliamentary elections," he said.

Replying to a question, he said, "There was no question of supporting Congress because, it will do so badly that no such question will arise".

Karat said the issue of promoting Narendra Modi as prime ministerial candidate was also discussed in the CC meeting and added due that to the projection, Modi was getting continuous support from corporate houses.

"But we know his past, his stand on communalism and pogrom in Gujarat. We will continue to rally against communal threats and leave no stone unturned to stop his coming to power," he said.

Karat also stressed that the Lokpal Bill should be adopted in the current session of Parliament with the amendments suggested by the select committee.
