Obama to visit Golden Temple in November

Barack Obama is expected to visit the holy city of Amritsar when he visits India in November.

New Delhi: American President Barack Obama is expected to visit the holy city of the Golden Temple when he visits India in November. A high-level team from the White House including personal security guards of the US president, led by a senior diplomat of the American Embassy in Delhi, visited the Golden
Temple on Wednesday and met Information Officer of Golden Temple Gurbachan Singh.

Singh said a 35-member team of American officials informed him that the US President has a plan to visit the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple.

The American team visited every nook and corner of the marbled periphery around the water pond of the Golden Temple, he added.

He said the US team also inspected the Langar Hall (community kitchen) of the Golden Temple, the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, the VIP passage from where Obama will move inside the sanctum sanctorum, besides the Information Centre where he would be offered refreshment after paying obeisance.

The US team wanted to know how much time Obama has to spend inside the Golden Temple and what kind of security measures will be required.

Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Kahan Singh Pannu said the US team inspected all the roads of the city right from
Rajasansi Airport to the Golden Temple.The team thoroughly inspected the entire Airport and its infrastructure besides the surrounding atmosphere.
