Parliament chaos: Lok Sabha adjourned till Monday

New Delhi: Even as pandemonium prevailed in the Parliament on Thursday, with an expelled Congress member, L Rajagopal spraying pepper in the House, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till Monday.

The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned till tomorrow.

In what is being termed as a new low in India`s parliamentary history, chaos ensued in the Lower House over the introduction of the contentious Telangana bill today.

Rajagopal, opposed to the division of Andhra Pradesh, used pepper spray in the Lok Sabha from a cannister. It resulted in the hospitalisation of three MPs, Vinay Kumar Pande, Ponnam Prabhakar and Balram Nai. They suffered suffocation, irritation in their eyes and coughing, They were later discharged.
There were other MPs too who were seen coming out of the Parliament with watery eyes and visible discomfort.

In other incidents, another anti-Telangana member Venugopal Reddy, who belongs to the TDP broke the mike of the House Secretary General and a computer screen was broken in the Well as members from either side of the divide came to blows when Shinde stood up to introduce the bill for reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh, as reported by PTI.

There was chaos in the Upper House too with members staging protest in the Well over the creation of a new state.

The MPs from Seemandhra, who are against the creation of Telangana tried to stall the introduction of the bill for which Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde later claimed has been tabled but was disputed by BJP and other Opposition parties.
Unprecedented scenes in the Parliament today was condemned by leaders cutting across party lines. Whereas, Speaker Meira Kumar said that the incident had shamed the country, BJP leaders like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley accused the government of not doing proper home work.

Later, 18 MPs, who are against division of Andhra Pradesh, were suspended by the Speaker for rest of the session.
