battalion of about 1000 personnel for combat duties at its
training centre near Ferozepur in Punjab.

Home Minister P Chidambaram will attend the passing out
parade of the women personnel, who have been undergoing
training at the BSF establishment in Punjab, tomorrow.

The women personnel, who will be inducted as constables
and deployed in Punjab sector, have been trained in weapon
handling, intelligence gathering, border management, sports,
unarmed combat frisking and guard duties.

The newly trained personnel will be deployed along side
their male counterparts to carry out search and frisking at
check posts, immigration points and trade routes along the
borders.

The battalion is part of the 29 sanctioned by the
Ministry of Home Affairs for the BSF as part of its expansion
plan.

The paramilitary force plans to induct about 35,000
personnel in the next four years.
